Hope you are all enjoying the move to summer here! In celebration of the time of year, thought I would do something a little summer inspired! Now until the start of summer, get 20% off!
“I hate kids,” Tanner said, dropping on the blanket next to me. It was dark outside, but I could see his face thanks to the fire burning in front of us. Me and Nick laugh at his words, barely able to hold it together.
“Are you sure you picked the right job then?” I asked, taking a bottle of beer he just opened and taking a sip. I wasn’t a big fan of it, but there was nothing else I could find in the camp. I should’ve been grateful to have even that - Tanner was the one who sneaked it in and I was just using my privileges as his friend to get one.
“Of course I’m sure,” he chuckled. “Now I can scream at them all day long and no one would say a word to me.”
I shook my head, not sure if that was something he meant to admit. When I finished school a few weeks ago I wasn’t sure where I’ll be spending the summer. Of course, I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my family and friends, but I also needed some spare funds to use in college. In the end, I decided to get a job and that’s how I ended up as a camp counselor. It wasn’t a dream job, by any means, but being out in nature sounded like a good time. I just didn’t think that it would get so terribly boring here so quickly.
It took me some time to get closer to Nick and Tanner - they both seemed loud and pulled a lot of attention to themselves, while I was just trying to keep my kids calm and behaving. But there wasn’t that much to do and, despite myself, I got close to these two. Sitting next to the fire after a long day with some beer and snacks became a tradition for us. It felt nice to finally be done with taking care of the kids and remember that we were adults and could do what we wanted.
“Want to play never have I ever?” Nick asked, looking at the fire. The picnic blanket wasn't that big, so we had to sit close together, both Nick and Tanner pressed to my sides, our thighs touching.
“I think we know everything about each other at this point,” I rolled my eyes. That was true - with nothing to do we had to reserve our entertainment to get to know each other but each one of us had only a handful of interesting stories to tell.
“Maybe spin the bottle then?” Tanner exaggeratedly wiggled his eyebrows, making me burst with laughter.
“If you two want to make out don’t let me stop you,” I looked between the two guys, leaning back just enough to let them look at each other’s faces.
“Sorry, this one is not my type,” Nick laughed. At least he was a good sport about it. “Though with the lack of girls in this place, I might start looking for the options by the end of next month.”
“There is at least one attractive girl here,” Tanner insisted, giving me a long look.
“Didn’t we agreed that…” Nick started but as soon as he caught me looking he stopped mid-sentence. Something was going on and I wanted to know what exactly.
“What is it?” I asked, turning to look at one of them, then the other, trying to figure out what exactly those two were hiding from me. “Are you going to answer?”
“Well, the thing is,” Tanner said, rubbing the back of his head. “When we came here and saw you, we both wanted to make the first move.”
My eyes went wide, my cheeks burning. I never got much attention from guys, let alone two at once, so this was a new and unexpected feeling for me - to be wanted by two of them at once. I moved back just enough so I could see both of them looking back at me.
To be completely honest, I found both of them attractive, just in their own way. Tanner was blond and tan, with subtle muscles. He looked like a typical american golden boy, always wearing a wide grin on his face. Nick was tall, with a slightly larger build, his eyes just as dark as his hair. He wasn’t as outgoing as his friend, mostly keeping to himself. And what could I do with this information now?
“And why didn’t you do it?” I asked, surprised and disappointed at the same time. Having a summer romance would’ve definitely helped me to survive this summer.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Nick asked, moving his hand between the two of them. “Even if we did in the end only one of us would’ve gotten the girl and the other one would have to watch it happen. We’d have to spend more time together, that would’ve started the drama and ruined the friendship we already have. You’re a beautiful girl, Zoe, but that’s just not worth it.”
Now I was also feeling bitter. Not worth it, he said.
“And what about you? Do you agree with him?” I asked, turning to Tanner.
“Well, I mean,” he put his hand on my knee as if not fully realizing what he did. “This would’ve ended as a problem, I agree with it. No hard feelings, right?”
