Anna’s entire body burned with every step. They’d been hiking for hours, and they weren’t even halfway done. Just a few steps ahead, her boyfriend was equally heaving with exertion.
No, not her boyfriend. James was her fiancé now.
Her cheeks burned even more once she started to think about that. Honestly, the hiking was only responsible for half of just how hot and flustered she was. The much more pressing issue was the hurricane of emotions threatening to break out of her chest.
If she’d been at home, then she could have buried her face in a pillow and screamed until she was out of breath, but that would be decidedly bad form on a serene trail like this.
“Jesus,” James groaned as he crested the small hill before them.
Anna couldn’t look away as he rolled his shoulders and sighed in relief at having conquered this small obstacle.
Every time he grunted, strained, and gasped, she felt a pang deep within herself. Every little noise made her fall deeper in love and even deeper in lust. She couldn’t help but imagine other contexts where he might make those sounds, and her entire body shuddered in reply.
“You doing alright?” he asked between heavy pants.
“Y-yeah.” Anna quickly averted her eyes as she drew up alongside him. At least she had the excuse of looking down at the picturesque canyon that stretched out below.
But then she could feel James looking down at her, and it felt like she was being stripped naked. Even though she knew that he was just a little concerned, she couldn’t help that her body was reading his sudden interest as something else entirely. Something far more scalding.
“You’re sure?” he pressed.
“I’m just… I guess it’s just all finally sinking in. The fact that we’re committed to each other for a lifetime, I mean.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see James panic and start to tense up.
“No, that came out wrong!” Anna cried as she gripped his arm and finally turned back to face him. Hopefully he would just think that her blush was purely a physical reaction.
“You’re not having second thoughts then?” he asked cautiously.
“Absolutely not,” she answered instantly. “It’s just…”
“It’s just what?” he pressed.
She hadn’t thought that her cheeks could get any hotter. She now discovered that she’d been dead wrong.
“It’s just… it’s just that it’s really turning me on!” she blurted out, and once she started, she couldn’t stop. “I thought it would go away, but it’s been hours now, and every time I look at you, I just can’t stop thinking about… that,” she ended pitifully, breaking eye contact once more.
God, this was so embarrassing!
“O-oh.”
That was all James said, and then the two of them were left in a gasping, heaving silence where they could focus on nothing but the fact that she was still holding onto his arm. What had been a gesture of comfort now felt like a whole lot more.
And now that it was out in the open, Anna couldn’t stop herself from continuing.
“We feel so close now,” she whispered, getting even closer to him until their bodies were pressed together in the most delicious ways. “Closer than I’ve ever felt to anyone, and I can’t help but think that it might feel so much more wonderful when we… you know, when we do it.”
“I-is that so?” James asked, but his hands weren’t nearly as hesitant as his voice. His arms were already wrapped around her, and his fingers were terribly tantalizing as they danced on her slick, burning back.
“I want to be closer to you in every way imaginable,” Anna gasped, clinging to him like she would die if she let go. “I need you.”
“I need you too, Anna.”
“No, I mean right now. I need you inside me, right this second.”
She gave a moment for her words to sink in, then reached down and checked.
Oh yes, he was definitely on the same page as her.
