Do you know the feeling you get when you first wake up from a much-needed sleep after a long—and I mean long—night?
You know, that slight haziness when the translucent stars in your brain are trying to thread together into forming a coherent constellation is something everyone experiences one way or another, and it’s the ultimate WTF moment.
Feeling disoriented and groggily, I slowly crack open one eye, still partially lost in the dream I was having. I first notice the sun's warmth on my face, signaling the start of a brand-new day, and then the birds singing outside.
The second thing is, holy shit, the chirping is like a boombox exploding right next to my damn ears.
Also, why is it so freaking bright?
Why is it legal for the sun to be this sunny first thing in the morning?
“Argh,” I groan, squinting hard as my brain tries to catch up on everything and what year it is.
The hotel bedroom we booked is an absolute wreck that even I feel bad for the housekeepers who have to clean this up. I make a mental note to give a big tip later because fuck me, I don’t even want to look at the living room area. There are discarded items everywhere. From the bottles of empty champagne to the flower petals and then to my wedding dress discarded on the floor like it didn’t cost me two thousand dollars.
Wait.
Wedding…?
I instantly look down at my finger and the colossal diamond rock that is sitting right on my ring finger. Then, I look down, and sure enough, I’m entirely naked with love marks and hickeys of various sizes across my chest. I take a deep breath as snippets of last night come rushing while I sit up. That was a mistake—a wave of nausea slams into me as I find myself hunching over as the room spins temporarily.
Nope.
